Mr Robert Jones

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mr Robert Jones (CANADA), who served as Director of the ITU Radiocommunication Bureau (BR) with distinction and dedication. Mr Jones was first elected to the post of Director of the Radiocommunication Bureau by the Kyoto Plenipotentiary Conference in September 1994 and assumed his post in January 1995. He was subsequently elected to a second term as BR Director on 22 October 1998 by the Ninth Plenary meeting of the Minneapolis Plenipotentiary Conference. After completing his two terms as BR Director, Mr Jones was elected a member of the Radio Regulations Board (RRB) from 1 January 2007 to 31 December 2010 and received an ITU Silver medal at the end of his term. His leadership was marked by integrity, foresight, and commitment to the mission of the Bureau. Mr Jones placed great emphasis on the sound management of the Bureau. Under his leadership, and for the first time, BR operational plans were developed for the Radiocommunication Bureau and presented to the Radiocommunication Advisory Group for comment and guidance. Before taking up his duties at ITU, Mr Jones was the Director General of the Canadian Radiocommunications and Broadcasting Regulatory Branch. He also participated and was head of the Canadian delegation to various ITU conferences between 1977 and 1994. Link to the obituary and livestream information
